The weather is starting to warm up, or least it should start to warm up for us soon. It's a great time to think about getting outside and having some spring photos taken!

Spring is an excellent time of year to finally get a new family photo or to grab some new pics of the kids because it's a time of rejuvenation and change! Flowers are starting to come back fresh, it's still cool enough outside for wearing great looking layers, and when you're spring cleaning your house a new photo to hang up on the wall can make all of the difference.

So let's take a moment and chat about how to choose what to wear for your spring photography session. Because let's face it, besides choosing a kick-butt photographer, your wardrobe is the second most important decision you'll need to make.

6 Tips for Choosing What to Wear for Stunning Spring Photos

Are you ready to create a photo you'll adore for years to come? Here are a few tips to making that happen.

1. Don't Match - Compliment.

This first thing to consider when choosing what your family will wear is to not focus on having everyone match. Instead, look for a couple of colors that you like and find apparel in those colors that compliment one another.

2. Let the Scenery Speak for Itself.

We want you to stand out and trying to compete with the scenery won't work. Instead, look for solid colors with only small pops of patterns. Also try to avoid any wording or logos that will distract from the overall beauty of the image.

3. Look for Colors That Will Compliment Your Home.

Photos are meant to be displayed, so when trying to decide on complimentary colors for your wardrobe take cues from your homes decor! Which room will the photo by displayed in? Considering this ahead of time will help you love your photo even more.

4. It's All About the Accessories!

It's true, accessories are your best friend when having photos taken. This includes adding fun hair flowers, rain boots, and layers! Something like adding a simple jean jacket can make all of the difference.

5. Think About the Location of the Photo.

While I'm sure your photographer has a great spot planned to take the photos, be sure to ask ahead of time what recommendations they can offer. It's best to be prepared and know what colors are already present in the natural surroundings.

6. Have Fun - Let Your Personality Shine.

Of course, my biggest recommendation is to be true to yourself. If you like bright colors, rock that! If you're style is modern, dress the part. Your photos should always represent you and your family in your truest form.

We're here to conserve your memories. Let's make them supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - in its highest regard.

One of the hardest parts of ordering portraits is sizing. What size is the best for your space, what size do family members want, and how will they be displayed?

HSP is here to help, during our ordering sessions here at our studio in Fenton Michigan we have a new system that allows you to see your portraits on your homes walls instantly. This takes the guessing work out of hanging portraits and gives an accurate view of the space. All too often we hear.."8x10 that's too big!" Or we don't need a really big one.

Below is an example of an 8x10 hung on a wall, we think you will agree Grandma is going to have a hard time enjoying this portrait!

This weekend we packed up the truck and took off to see this blue ice that we had been hearing so much about on Facebook. As a photographer I always want to find a different way to photograph what everyone else is pointing a camera at. In this case it didn't matter where I pointed my camera there was beauty all around us.

The kids enjoyed climbing on the ice and seeing how far they could see, while we also took the opportunity to snap a quick family portrait. While we lacked on the pre planning of outfits and colors we made up for in location!

If you have the opportunity to see this rare occurrence it is highly recommended to stay close to the shoreline, the best viewing we found was right downtown Mackinaw City.  Enjoy a few of our photos from this random adventure!
